If you are doing any alternations to your building you may need a building permit. You can find a building permit application on the Township website and it can be dropped off at the Southgate Municipal Office. 

If you are occupying an existing building you may need a change of use permit. Please contact our Building Services team for more information. 

The Township of Southgate is serviced by 3 Fire Departments: Dundalk, West Grey and Wellington North. To determine which department services you, please see the Fire Service Areas Map. The Dundalk Volunteer Fire Department is home to Southgate’s Chief Fire Official who oversees all fire-related services within the Township. For more information, contact the Dundalk Fire Department.

Your business needs to contact the Township of Southgate Municipal Office to verify the contact information on your municipal tax account. Please contact the Tax Collector/Deputy Treasurer to verify your information and for any other tax-related questions you may have.

Most businesses in Southgate will need to get a PO Box number from Canada Post. Rural businesses should have a 6 digit civic address number.

There is a Post Office on Main Street in Dundalk and in nearby Mount Forest and Durham. For more information contact Canada Post Customer Service at 1-866-607-6301 or the Dundalk Branch at 519-923-2004.

Each business is assigned 3 carts (blue for recycling, 1 grey or black for waste, and 1 green for organics). Please ensure that these carts are at your business location. Southgate is divided into 4 zones for collection. A Collection Schedule Calendar is sent out annually to each business in Southgate. A copy of the Collection Schedule Calendar, Zone Map, and Details of what is accepted can be found on the Township website. Pick-up for recycling and waste collection alternates weekly and the Green Cart is picked up each week. For more information contact the Township of Southgate Public Works Office.

Natural Gas Services

For Gas Services in the Dundalk area contact Enbridge Gas at 1-877-362-7434. 

Water and Wastewater Utilities

If your business is in the Village of Dundalk and on municipal water and sewer, please be sure to verify the contact information on your water billing account (which includes the sewage charges) by contacting the Finance Assistant - Revenues at the Township of Southgate Municipal Office.
