Thinking about getting chickens? Read this first!

The Township has received a number of inquiries about the possibility of housing chickens. Did you know that in accordance with Southgate Zoning By-law 19-2002, the housing of chickens is NOT permitted in any residential zone except Residential Zone 6, and the property in question MUST be greater than 1 hectare in size, with a minimum frontage of 60 metres.

If you are unsure what the zoning on your property is or to inquire if you are able to house chickens, please call the Township of Southgate at 519-923-2110.
