Council Highlights - December 18, 2024

·       Economic Development Officer Brenna Carroll presented a report to coordinate a downtown revitalization program in Dundalk. The Downtown Revitalization Program is a project guided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness and the Ministry of Rural Affairs to facilitate the improvement of rural downtown cores across Ontario through community consultation and evaluation.

·       Council appointed Jim Ellis as the Interim Chief Administration Officer for the Township of Southgate. Congratulations Jim on your appointment!

·       Clerk Lindsey Green presented a report regarding the 2026 Municipal Election voting methods of internet and telephone voting for the 2026 municipal and school board elections. Clerk Green noted that help centres will be available to members of the community for assistance in utilizing internet voting during the 2026 election period. 

·       Mayor Milne provided an update on the most recent County of Grey Council meeting, noting that the County of Grey has given first approval to the 2025 County budget.

·       Mayor Milne noted that the Holstein Santa Claus Parade held on December 14, 2024 and extended his congratulations to the Holstein Parade Committee on a successful event!

·       Deputy Mayor Dobreen congratulated Councillor John on receiving the YMCA Peace Medal for her work with JunCtian Community Initiatives. 

·       Deputy Mayor Dobreen also thanked the community for their ongoing support of the Dundalk Food Bank and the Holstein Christmas Hamper program, noting that there has been a significant need for the service and that the community has continued to be supportive in these difficult times. 

·       The Township of Southgate Administrative Building will be closed Tuesday December 24, 2024 at 12:00PM, reopening on Thursday January 2, 2025 at 8:30AM. Waste collection will operate on a modified schedule, further information can be viewed on the Waste and Recycling page on our website.
