Southgate Zoning By-Law

What is a Zoning By-law?

A zoning by-law controls the use of land in the community. The Township of Southgate zoning by-law states:

  • How land may be used, including what uses are permitted on a property
  • Where buildings and other structures can be located, including required setback from the street
  • The types of buildings permitted and building heights
  • Minimum lot sizes and dimensions
  • Parking requirements

The Township of Southgate has passed a comprehensive zoning by-law which separates land with a common purpose into different zoning categories.

Zoning by-laws also implement the objectives and policies of the Official Plan. A zoning by-law is a legal way of managing land use and future development. The purpose of the zoning by-law is also to separate uses to reduce the land-use conflicts between uses.
