On behalf of the Township of Southgate, Mayor Brian Milne would like to remind Southgate residents of the significance of Remembrance Day:
"On November 11th, we take the time to honour those who have served Canada, a nation we should all be eternally grateful to call home.
We call this day Remembrance Day because it is a day for us to slow down, take the time, and remember the Canadians who have served our nation so selflessly, many of whom laid down their lives by making the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy living in Canada as the great nation it is today.
I ask that all Southgate residents to take time to reflect on this today. I encourage all those who are able, to attend a local Remembrance Day ceremony, whether that be at a local ceremony, or at your school or workplace. Reflection and remembrance happens in many ways; I also encourage you to support the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund by wearing a poppy, and to learn more about the stories of those who made the ultimate sacrifice by visiting Canada’s Virtual War Memorial (https://www.veterans.gc.ca/.../canadian-virtual-war-memorial).
I would like to conclude by thanking all those who have served Canada and those currently serving our great country; may we never forget.”
